Lost Valley February 21 & 22 2015

What could be better than a quick overnight trip into the San Rafael Wilderness on an uncharted trail to boot..with plenty of wildflowers and sunshine. This post is image heavy and word thin.

One of Castle Rocks up towards Hurricane Deck. A great place to camp...if only there was water!

Look closely and you will see tiny droplets of water coming off the moss.

The trail in places was littered with HUGE pine cones.

After exploring Lost Valley I hiked back down and found a flat spot close to the river, actually more of a small stream and called it camp. I enjoyed a delicious Bare Burrito meal listening to the gurgling of the water and the cacophony of frogs and crickets as day turned to dusk and to night.

Morning on the trail. soon it will be raining.

In the morning I hiked a few miles along Manzana Trail enjoying the aroma of rain, flowers, sage brush and dirt, which is almost as good as the aroma of coffee….almost!

I spent some time exploring the creek drainage that runs out of Lost Valley. The creek looks as if it has been dry for a long time. It reminds me of Steinbeck and the Grapes of Wrath.

This creek bed needs some lotion! Or some water, it's so dry!

It doesn't take much water to green it on up!

When I got back to the car I was soaked but happy.  On the drive home I saw the most amazing rainbow arching across the valley I had hiked and reminding me once again how great it feels to be out on the trail!
