After exploring Lost Valley I hiked back down and found a flat spot close to the river, actually more of a small stream and called it camp. I enjoyed a delicious Bare Burrito meal listening to the gurgling of the water and the cacophony of frogs and crickets as day turned to dusk and to night.
In the morning I hiked a few miles along Manzana Trail enjoying the aroma of rain, flowers, sage brush and dirt, which is almost as good as the aroma of coffee….almost!
I spent some time exploring the creek drainage that runs out of Lost Valley. The creek looks as if it has been dry for a long time. It reminds me of Steinbeck and the Grapes of Wrath.
When I got back to the car I was soaked but happy. On the drive home I saw the most amazing rainbow arching across the valley I had hiked and reminding me once again how great it feels to be out on the trail!
